42 Dollars?!?  Are You Kidding Me?!?

The other day I had to travel to a client site for work.  One of my jobs there was to hook up a receipt printer to the computer in the front office.  I proceed to unpack the printer from the box and notice that the cable to plug the printer into the computer wasn’t there.  I called my boss and he says that I should go out and pick up a cable.  Good deal, I think.

I got to Staples and they have a 15 foot cable for $42.00.

$42.00!!  No way in hell am I spending 42 bucks..

I leave and decide to go to Home Depot.

They don’t have one.

I leave there and decide to go to Target.

They don’t have one either.

I noticed across the street that there was a small computer shop that deals with new and used equipment.  They didn’t have an new cables, but the guy went in the back and pulled out two used cables.  I point to one of the them and said, “I’ll take it for 5 bucks!”.

Score!  I just saved $37.00.  I’m the king of the world!!

I get back the office and start to get to work.  I look at the back of the computer and notice that there is ONLY ONE PRINTER PORT.  The printer that is being used is already plugged into it.

Rats!!

We’re gonna need either a 2nd parallel port or Parallel to USB Adapter.  I call around and no one has either.  The one place suggested that I try Best Buy.  In all my driving around I had no idea that there was a Best Buy.  Oh well, I get to Best Buy and find the Parallel to USB adapter that I was looking for.  The cost??

$37.00.  Ugh!

In all driving I did in order to save 42 dollars, I end up spending 42 dollars.

But that’s not the entire story.

I get back to the office again, this time thinking that I’m ready to get the job done and when I went to unplug the cable from the back of the DeskJet printer, I discover that there was a USB port on the back of it.  The only thing I could say was…

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?”.  In a very loud tone of voice.

The entire time, all that driving around all I needed was a USB cable.  What made matters even worse was that there was a spare USB cable laying there in the server room.

*HITS SELF IN THE READ MULTIPLE TIMES*

Well, there you have it folks.  The moral of this story is..  Trying to save money is sometimes not worth the headache.  Either that or Just don’t get out of bed!!!

Water Torture

Why is it that everytime I go to wash my hands I have the sudden urge to go to the bathroom?!?

I know that this is way too much information for you to handle, but it’s a mystery that confounds me..

Go head, talk amongst yourselves.

I swear the world is going to hell

Ho! Ho! Ho! ???  No! No! No!\

I can’t believe where the world is heading towards.  This is totally ridiculous.

What’s next?  At school, you won’t be allowed to have a ‘HO DOWN’.  I won’t be allowed to buy a Hoe at a hardware store.

Grrrr.  Makes me want to kick someone..

Putting Your Best Food Forward

This post is not meant to be bragging, but I couldn’t help but share the good news..

I received a call yesterday from a company that I have been working with for the past 5+ years.  A couple years ago I worked with their designer to come up with something that I wanted to have made/ordered.  The company had never done anything like this before.

Recently, I got the green light to see the project come to life.  Yesterday I saw the fruits of that labor.  I was very impressed.  The email told me that they were ready and I would get them on Thursday.  I received a call later that day telling me there was a problem.  I called up the company and they basically said that my idea would be used from here on out for future and present customers.  They spend many hours working on this and they wanted to keep the ones shown as a prototype and create a second set for me.  I’ll have them in time for the weekend!!

News like that makes a person feel good.  Now, let’s hope that they’re as good as they look.

Post Weekend Wrapup

This picture says it all.

This weekend was opening weekend for the Royals.  It’s always a busy time, but it was even better because Daddy got to have his number one fan in attendance (for Saturday night anyway..) Huge thanks goes out to Mo’s friend Jen for keeping an eye on her.  You’re awesome.

It was indeed a busy weekend starting with Friday night trying to figure out how to get the 4-wheeler to work with the t-shirt launcher.  What a headache, but a huuge shout out to my good friend Vince for creating a way to get the cannon to attach and still have room for Slappy’s large bootay.  W00t!

To update you on some recent events here you go..

1.  My grandmother(my dad’s mom) is in stable condition.  Her temp is down, but the doctor’s aren’t sure what’s going on..  I’ll keep you updated when I find something else.
2.  No word from the potential job yet.  We’ll see what happens.  It’s breath holding time!

Update! Update! Update!

Had a talk with potential boss on Monday.  We chatted about the job and what I could bring to the table.  It was a great talk, but I couldn’t help but be somewhat guarded in the way I was dealing with things.

The topic of salary was bound to come up, and so it did.  Potential boss wanted to know if we were in the same zipcode and after the discussion said that we were in the same neighborhood.

That doesn’t sound too bad.  They are also talking to other candidates, but are quite smitten by me.

I really don’t want to get my hopes up.  I like what they’re offering, but I hope that I can live up to the hype.

Sorry that I can’t give you anymore detail than what I’ve said.  People are mean and cruel and a particular person would love to see me not get this job.  Isn’t it sad when it comes down to this???  People suck.

On a serious note....

1.  MG’s uncle passed away.  He was a nice guy.  I really didn’t speak to him in volumes over the years, but when I did it was an enjoyable experience.
2.  My grandmother isn’t doing well.  She was rushed to the hospital with a fever of 109 degrees.  They had to give her oxygen and they’re not sure what’s gonna happen next.  Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  I don’t have a large family, so bad news like this is NEVER good.
